AKAIAMI Paradise is the historical site where TEAL flying boats landed while plying the Coral Route through the South Pacific during the 1940s and 50s. TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited) became Air New Zealand, and the Coral Route remains, but there are no longer the flying boats. Located on one of Aitutaki's motus (islets), the landowners have been preparing for the past decade to restore the site.
The Lodge has been rebuilt on the exact spot where the original terminal stood. Here the well-to-do of the 1950s, including movie stars such as John Wayne, Cary Grant and the like, stopped for a few hours or even overnight while the planes were serviced or waited for weather to clear.
    The Lodge is a spacious building, 8 x 16 metres (approx 24 x 48 feet, nearly 1200 square feet).
The Lodge accommodates a maximum of six people on request. It has one bedroom, two double beds, lounge area, fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, dining area, overhead fan, mini library, ensuite bathroom/toilet. insect screens, front decking, spectacular view of the lagoon and sunsets, daily service, complimentary fruits when available, laundry facility, kayak, snorkelling gear, beach towels and stove. Other than that, you will find no TV, no video, no radio, in fact, no gizmos of any kind to distract you from what you came to enjoy –peace and quiet on the most spectacular, crescent-shaped, perfect white sand beach on earth. The Villa comprises two units joined together by a wooden walk path. Unit 1 contains the sleeping quarters and unit 2 contains the kitchen. The villa accommodates a maximum of two people. It has one queen size bed, a kitchen, waterfront decking, ensuite bathroom/toilet, deck shower, an endless view of the lagoon and sunsets, complimentary fruits when available, daily service, kayak, snorkelling gear, refrigerator, and beach towels. It is possible to arrange for a passing lagoon day-tour to pick up Akaiami guests every morning (except Sunday) for a snorkelling and fish barbecue adventure and then return in the afternoon. We can arrange for your meals to be cooked at a rate of $30 per person and, for evening entertainment we can arrange from a solo ukelele to a string band to a small dance group.
International airlines service Rarotonga, the capital island of the Cooks. From Rarotonga three flights a day service Aitutaki. You will be met by our staff at Aitutaki airport after flying 40 minutes north from Rarotonga. We will stop at one or more stores and advise you on your food and supply purchases. Then from our nearby dock on the main island we ferry you 15 minutes across the magnificant lagoon to Akaiami. All transfers on Aitutaki are included in our pricing. Our trading days are from Mondays to Saturdays only.
